Pack layers and waterproof outerwear, checking IPMA for each stop. A clear afternoon does not establish the next day’s coastal conditions. Mountain and inland weather can differ greatly from Lisbon or the Algarve.
Have an indoor alternative
Pair outdoor days with a museum, gallery or café option. Check seasonal hours before travelling to smaller attractions. At coastal viewpoints stay behind barriers, even if only stopping for a photograph.
Check prices rather than assuming discounts
Room rates vary by weekends, dates and events. Compare quotes rather than assuming every hotel is half price. Transport has its own tariffs, not a general winter discount. Sea excursions can be cancelled, so keep flexibility rather than promising a cave trip as the centrepiece of a short stay.
