Room and meal budgets are estimates
For a mid-range city break, an illustrative allowance is €110–190 per person per day: €60–100 as one person's half of a shared room, €35–55 for food and €15–35 for local transport and admissions. This is a planning example, not a checked hotel or restaurant tariff. A palace-heavy day, tasting menu, solo room or busy weekend can cost considerably more.
Flights, intercity travel, local accommodation taxes, shopping and special dinners are excluded. Check your accommodation's full total, cancellation conditions and any locally payable taxes before booking.
Transport choices that avoid surprises
In Lisbon, distinguish a loaded Carris/Metro ticket from an on-board fare and from a combined CP pass. For Porto, use the Andante journey information to choose zones; validate as instructed when starting a journey or transferring. Keep attraction tickets separate from your public transport budget.
For Sintra, leave a buffer between the train arrival and timed palace entry. Hill transport, queues and the walk inside the grounds all take time. Do not plan to drive up and park at Pena. For regional or intercity journeys, check CP's journey planner and the relevant coach operator.
Recommendations and temporary changes
Check the MICHELIN Guide's current restaurant selection and each restaurant's own booking page for opening days, menu prices and supplements. A MICHELIN listing does not automatically mean a star.
Monserrate's operator reports roof restoration with scaffolding and temporary coverings into the first quarter of 2027. Check current notices for all monuments; weather or operational restrictions can alter a day plan.
