Choose an experience, not a winner

Lisbon offers distinct sightseeing areas and trips to Sintra or Cascais. Porto offers a compact historic core, riverfront and Gaia cellars. Both have hills and popular attractions; neither guarantees an uncrowded or entirely walkable stay.

Follow your interests

Choose Lisbon if Belém, fado and a palace trip lead your list. Choose Porto for riverside walks, port wine and northern Portugal. Near Porto, consider Foz or Matosinhos for Atlantic time: there is no beach destination called Francesinha Beach.

If visiting both

Allow a proper transfer block and check CP for the actual train and stations. Compare rooms for identical dates before assuming one city is cheaper. For a short break, one base can be more satisfying than spending a large part of the trip checking in and out. Use your arrival and departure airports to choose the order.
