Use a published route
Choose an official walking route that fits your fitness and the conditions. Vila Sassetti, Monserrate and the landscape around Peninha offer different visits. Check access with Parques de Sintra. A path inside a managed estate may need a ticket; a forest setting does not mean free public access.
Plan a shorter walk well
Start with the route map, elevation, distance and return point. Save the map offline, carry water and leave daylight for the return. Do not assume a taxi will be waiting at a remote trailhead. In poor conditions, use the town and National Palace as an alternative.
Respect closures
Forest access can change because of fire risk, weather or works. Follow barriers and official notices even if an app suggests a route. Capuchos needs an onward journey from the historic centre; it is not a short town-centre loop. Avoid entering unmarked private tracks in search of a viewpoint.
