Look beyond the well
The Initiation Well is part of a wider estate of gardens, architecture and underground features. Treat descriptions of symbolism as interpretation, not proof that specific historical rituals occurred there. Our suggested allowance is two to three hours, with extra time if queues develop.
Tickets and access
The operator lists 2026 adult admission at €20 for ages 18–64 and €15 for ages 6–17 and seniors. Book through the official operator and check visiting rules. Bring shoes with grip for steps and damp surfaces; ask about accessible routes if stairs are difficult.
Fit it into your Sintra day
Regaleira is near the historic centre, but allow for the walk from the station and for hills. Pair it with lunch and the National Palace area, or leave a generous buffer after Pena. Save your ticket and the official location before travelling. Avoid promising yourself several timed visits with no room for a late arrival.
