Build a compact route
Start at São Bento station, then choose the Carmo area or Capela das Almas near Santa Catarina. Look at the details rather than racing to photograph every façade. Step aside for people using the station and pavements.
Exterior and interior visits differ
Seeing tiles outside does not automatically include access inside a church or museum. Check worship times, visiting arrangements and ticket requirements before entering. Keep doorways clear and stay out of traffic when taking photographs.
Pair tiles with your wider day
Combine São Bento with the historic centre, or Santa Catarina with Bolhão. Hills matter as well as distance, so choose the order carefully. Rain can make paving slippery and photography awkward; shorten the route and add a café stop rather than keeping a rigid schedule. Avoid resting bags or touching fragile decorative surfaces.
