Choose rail, a tour or an overnight stay
A Douro day is a full outing, not a quick detour between Porto sights. Rail suits travellers happy to follow a timetable. A booked tour can connect wineries and viewpoints that are awkward without a car. An overnight stay leaves more time for a winery visit.
Match the train to the visit
Use CP for the exact service, origin and destination on your date. Régua and Pinhão are different stops with different onward needs. Do not assume every train leaves São Bento or the station is beside your winery. Verify the connection and return before booking the visit.
Read tour inclusions
Compare tasting contents, lunch, pickup and any boat segment. A short river cruise is not a full-day cruise. Leave driving to someone who will not drink. Use an operator quote for your party and date; wine tourism has no single fixed tariff.
